Cop injured in rescuing driver from burning car
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - San Antonio officials plan to honor a police officer who was injured while rescuing a driver from a burning car.
Officer German Huerta was to be recognized during a ceremony Monday.
San Antonio police say he was responding to a call when a car sped past him, hit a concrete barrier and rolled several times before catching fire Saturday morning.
Huerta used his fire extinguisher and then broke the passenger window so he could pull out the driver.
Authorities say she was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and burns.
Huerta suffered smoke inhalation, cuts and some minor burns to his hands and arms. He was treated at a hospital.
San Antonio firefighters extinguished the car fire.
