GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz says lost in the national stir caused by a Democratic filibuster in the Texas Senate is the fact that the majority of Texans oppose abortion.
The tea party firebrand said Friday that according to the media "those rowdy protesters were adopting the popular view."
Back in his home state for the National Right to Life Convention outside Dallas, Cruz said Texas remains extremely conservative. He added that "a handful of protesters" won't change that.
On Tuesday, Democratic Senator Wendy Davis became a sensation by staging a filibuster to block a bill imposing widespread limits on abortion statewide.
She was silenced just before the midnight deadline to pass legislation, but hundreds of protesters raised such a raucous that lawmakers couldn't approve it until it was too late.
