Dallas suspect who fled hospital returned to jail

DALLAS (AP) - A capital murder suspect who took a deputy's gun, fled from a Dallas hospital and later surrendered has been returned to jail.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office says inmate Franklin B. Davis of Carrollton was back in jail Wednesday. Davis remained at large for more than two hours Tuesday night until officers located him in a van about a mile from the hospital.

Officials haven't said why Davis required medical treatment.

He awaits trial in the slaying of 16-year-old Shania Gray. Her shot and strangled body was found Sept. 8 along a fork of the Trinity River.

Investigators say Davis was charged with four counts of sexually assaulting the girl when he allegedly took her from school. Police believe Davis lured the girl from campus to prevent her from testifying.
