Dallas police: Files in home had repeat offenses

DALLAS,TX (AP) - Dallas police say the cases of a detective who improperly stored family violence files at home had more than 500 instances of suspects hurting victims again.

Police have released results of an internal investigation of Detective Mickey East, an almost 40-year veteran of the department. East is a former family violence investigator who worked more than 2,000 cases over five years.

A review found 508 instances of "re-victimization," in which someone who reported family violence was hurt again by the same suspect. Deputy Chief Sherryl Scott says some of those instances can no longer be prosecuted because they fall outside a statute of limitations.

After an initial review in 2009, East was removed from the family violence unit. He faces a disciplinary hearing. He couldn't be reached for comment.
