DALLAS (AP) - Court filings show the Justice Department is continuing to examine Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins' handling of a mortgage fraud case that ended months ago.
The Dallas Morning News reports filings in an unrelated case indicate the FBI has asked to see documents relevant to the prosecution of millionaire Al Hill III. Fraud charges against Hill were dismissed by a state district court judge who then held Watkins in contempt for refusing to testify. Watkins subsequently was acquitted of contempt.
Hill has contended the charges against him were the result of Watkins doing a favor for a political benefactor.
Watkins says Hills' attorneys are unethical and trying to divert attention from the fact that Hill was indicted. Hill is the great-grandson of deceased oil magnate H.L. Hunt.
