EL PASO, Texas (AP) - An embattled West Texas school board is about to decide the futures of two administrators amid a testing scandal.

The El Paso school board meets Tuesday to vote on the dismissal of an assistant superintendent and an assistant high school principal.

The meeting comes weeks after the Texas Education Agency's commissioner said the district should take harsh action to punish those involved in a scheme to prevent low-performing students from taking standardized tests.

Ex-Superintendent Lorenzo Garcia was sentenced in October to more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to the scheme. But punishment for other administrators linked to the scandal has come more slowly.

Last week, the commissioner named a new board to replace the trustees. Federal voting rights laws require the new board to first get Justice Department approval.
