SHERMAN, TX -- Pyrotechnic crews unload $10,000 worth of fireworks Wednesday.

"This is just a great little show that we've been shooting now for seven years," Recreation Manager Theresa Hutchinson said.

It's the center piece of Sherman's 4th annual Lights on the Lake.

"Every single city department is a part of this show. It's a big event for the city of Sherman," Hutchinson said.

Preparation for the event begins a year in advance, Hutchinson added.

"We try to switch it up each year. Make it bigger, make it better, learn from our mistakes," Hutchinson said.

Workers spent the day setting up activities for the kids, sound checking the stage, and moving in food vendors.

It's a process that's gotten a little easier each year.

"It's a lot more streamlined," Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson also added that having the show on July 3rd is kind of an accidental tradition.

"Four years ago, July 3 was on a Saturday, and all the fireworks people were booked up on the 4th. So that's how we ended up with the third, and it's worked out really well to have it the night before," Hutchinson explained.

And of course, the highlight of the show, is the fireworks.

"When the band stops and the fireworks start, and everybody's trying to find that perfect spot," Hutchinson said.

And that's where Randy Beckham and Pyrotex comes in.

"Tonight's show is a 15 minute long show," Pyrotex President Randy Beckham said.

Beckham said it takes about 3 hours to unload the shells and put them into the racks and stands.

"They are wired into the computer. And then set and ready to go. On the go command, it's just push the button," Beckham explained.

Beckham said it's a combination of sky and ground fireworks.

"The show itself is about $10,000," Beckham said.

Hutchinson said Landmark Bank sponsors the firework show.

"It serves a lot of people in the community," Hutchinson said.
