HOUSTON,TX (AP) - A teenage suburban Houston girl accused of killing a man when she was 12 has been acquitted of murder.
According to trial testimony, the girl - who's now 15 - testified that Mark A. Nelson had begun to sexually abuse her when she was 6.
However, prosecutors argued that the girl made no outcry until after Nelson was found dead in his bed at his home in Katy. Investigators say he was shot once in the back of his head as he slept one April morning in 2009.
The girl's attorney, Wendi Akins Pastorini, said Nelson's "physical and verbal and emotional and sexual assaults were getting more and more aggravated as time went on."
The Harris County jury reached its verdict Monday after beginning its deliberations Wednesday.
