Kirby mom gets jail, daughter, 4, trapped in car

SAN ANTONIO,TX. (AP) - A South Texas woman must serve two years in state jail over the 2008 death of her 4-year-old daughter who was trapped in a hot car.

A judge in San Antonio on Monday sentenced Rhonda West of Kirby. Prosecutors say West fell asleep in her home while her daughter, Kamryn, played outside with other children.

The girl became trapped in a 1993 car with no inner door handles. She died Sept. 27, 2008, of heat exhaustion. Forecasters say temperatures were in the upper 80s and low 90s in the area.

West, in an agreement reached last month, pleaded no contest to reckless endangerment of a child.

West gave up custody of her four older children following the death. She recently had a baby.
