HOUSTON (AP) - A witness found a license plate from a truck in a deadly hit-and-run accident near Houston and a man suspected of being the driver has surrendered.
Harris County sheriff's deputies on Thursday announced an arrest in the New Year's Day accident that left a pedestrian dead. Officials did not immediately release the name of the woman who died Wednesday night.
Witnesses say they saw a blue pickup truck strike the victim as she crossed a street. A witness at the scene found the license plate from the fleeing truck.
Authorities say 28-year-old Erik Garza surrendered Thursday morning and was charged with failing to stop and render aid. The sheriff's office didn't offer details on bond or an attorney for Garza.
Further details on the investigation weren't released.
