Man gets life term for shooting at Texas officers

ORANGE, Texas (AP) - A Southeast Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting at some Orange police officers trying to serve a drug warrant.

An Orange County jury convicted 36-year-old David Glen Mays of two counts of attempted capital murder. He was sentenced Wednesday to life behind bars.

Prosecutors say nobody was injured in the March 2011 incident in which Mays opened fire. A bullet ended up lodged in the door frame as police forced their way into the home.

Investigators say cocaine, marijuana and guns were recovered from the residence. Mays was arrested on charges of attempted capital murder, possession of a controlled substance and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
