Maverick County worker charged in bribery case
DEL RIO, Texas (AP) - Another South Texas border county employee has been charged with accepting bribes.
Federal prosecutors in Del Rio say 40-year-old Eduardo Rene Rodriguez remains in custody pending a detention hearing next Wednesday.
Rodriguez surrendered Thursday after being indicted on two counts of receiving bribes. Investigators say Garcia's duties include acting as a liaison between the county and private contractors.
The indictment says Rodriguez since 2010 took bribes related to more than $5,000 worth of county contracts. Further details on the alleged exchanges were not immediately released.
Former Maverick County assistant county auditor Alejandra Garcia was indicted last week on one count of accepting bribes. County Commissioner Rodolfo "Rudy" Heredia, David Gelacio and Jose Luis Aguilar have been accused of laundering money and smuggling cash for a Mexican drug cartel associate.
