AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas museum and art school complex has a new name and an updated mission to focus on contemporary artists.
The Austin museum formerly known as AMOA-Arthouse on Thursday became The Contemporary Austin.
The museum has two venues - the 12-acre lakeside Laguna Gloria and the Jones Center - along with a new executive director. Louis Grachos took over in January.
Museum board president Darrell Windham says it's time for Austin to have a contemporary art museum to match its robust activity in music, film and new-media entrepreneurship.
Exhibits by artists Liam Gillick and Marianne Vitale open in September.
AMOA-Arthouse formed in 2011 when the Austin Museum of Art merged with the Congress Avenue contemporary arts center - Arthouse.
