BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Southeast Texas police say no injuries were reported after several cars from a train derailed in downtown Beaumont.
Officials say the derailment happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The rail cars were carrying grain and a large amount spilled in the area. But police say the derailment should not affect Fourth of July festivities scheduled Thursday night in downtown Beaumont.
Union Pacific is working to clear standing rail cars from the tracks just north and south of the derailment site. The cleanup of the derailed cars and the spilled cargo will begin Friday.
