GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (AP) - Police in a Dallas suburb are defending their actions after a woman was found shot to death along with her boyfriend by her ex-husband, who then killed himself.
Grand Prairie police say 39-year-old Dashun Atkins killed 37-year-old Jenea James shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, along with James' 41-year-old boyfriend, James Doyle. James and Doyle were found dead in a home in Grand Prairie.
Atkins was found dead later at his apartment.
Authorities say James called police twice Saturday to report harassing phone calls from Atkins. They say that she declined to press charges both times. Atkins' relative also called police shortly before midnight Saturday.
Police say in a statement that "at no time leading up to the shooting did officers have legal authority to arrest" Atkins.
