SNYDER, Texas (AP) - Police have fatally shot a West Texas man who used a knife to threaten his year-old son before charging toward an officer.
Snyder police Chief Terry Luecke (LOO'-kee) says an autopsy was scheduled Monday on 52-year-old David Dale Rivera. His son was not hurt.
Officers on Saturday responded to a report of a man threatening to kill his girlfriend, their son and himself at their home. Investigators say the woman fled unharmed.
Police say Rivera was at the front door when he put the youngster down and had a knife in each hand as he lunged toward an officer. The officer shot Rivera, who died later at a Snyder hospital.
The officer has been put on paid administrative duty during the investigation.
Snyder is 75 miles northwest of Abilene.
