WEST, Texas (AP) - Some private nonprofit groups in Central Texas impacted by a deadly fertilizer plant explosion are eligible to seek low-interest federal disaster loans.

The funding was announced Tuesday by the U.S. Small Business Administration as part of recovery since the April 17 blast in West. The explosion claimed 15 lives and left about 200 people hurt.

SBA officials say nonprofit groups in McLennan County, where West is located, that provide essential services of a governmental nature are eligible for assistance. The organizations must first register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

FEMA last week reversed its previous decision and approved additional recovery funding for West.

Eligible nonprofit organizations could receive up to $2 million to repair or replace real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.
