ORANGE, Texas (AP) - A Southeast Texas man has died after being attacked during his 38th birthday party and his stepson faces a murder charge.
Police in Orange on Friday said alcohol apparently played a role in the dispute leading to the death of John W. Lee Jr.
Capt. Cliff Hargrave says Lee apparently was beaten during the party at his home and died Thursday night at a hospital. Hargrave says Lee and 21-year-old Robert Wyatt Walter Jr. had previous family issues.
Walter was being held Friday on $250,000 bond. No attorney was listed for Walter, who fled after Thursday night's attack but was captured at a friend's home.
Orange is about 100 miles northeast of Houston.
