WACO, Texas (AP) - A Texas prosecutor fired a bullet through an office window while admiring a colleague's new gun, striking the brick wall of a vacant jail next door.
McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna says he might punish his assistant who fired the .40-caliber pistol Monday. The Waco Tribune-Herald reported that no one was hurt.
First Assistant District Attorney Michael Jarrett says he was being "extremely safe" and had been told the weapon wasn't loaded. Jarrett says he inspected the gun before pulling the trigger and pointed it toward a brick wall as a precaution.
Reyna told the newspaper he's angered by the shooting and will take some kind of action.
But Reyna says he still wants his assistants armed after two Kaufman County prosecutors were gunned down earlier this year.
