Texas county official busted for possessing pot

COLLEGE STATION, TX (AP) - A top south central Texas county official has been charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after an incident at a College Station hotel.

Guadalupe County Judge Mike Wiggins is charged with possessing less than 2 ounces of marijuana.

Police reports show Wiggins was attending a conference at the Hilton Hotel when a bellman reported smelling what seemed to be burning marijuana on the fifth floor Monday night. Security traced the smell to the room where the 58-year-old Wiggins was staying.

Police say Wiggins consented to a search, which turned up a grinder, rolling papers and a plastic bag of what appeared to be marijuana. He was released on $3,000 bond.

Wiggins told the Seguin Gazette-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/yjP6BK) there was nothing he could deny. He said he'd have more to say on Friday.
