HOUSTON (AP) - A woman who wasn't licensed to drive has died and her 10-year-old son is critically injured after she commandeered a vehicle and drove it into the front of a furniture store.
Houston police say the woman was a passenger Tuesday in an SUV along with her son and daughter. A man was driving the vehicle but his relationship to the others was not immediately known.
The group had stopped in a parking lot and the man and girl got out of the SUV. The 28-year-old woman told the man she wanted to learn to drive and hopped into the driver's seat. She released the hand brake and accelerated forward, striking the store and a parked vehicle.
The woman died at the scene. Police did not release her identity.
