McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - The operator of a Web site has formally objected to a subpoena demanding he turn over the names of 35 anonymous bloggers who posted messages about politics in McAlester.

McAlester Watercooler Web site operator Harold King filed an objection Thursday claiming that the subpoena is not valid because no issuing authority was identified in the paperwork.

Pittsburg County District Attorney Jim Bob Miller claims he's been criminally libeled on King's Web site and filed a police complaint.

Oklahoma is one of 16 states that have criminal libel laws, but many libel cases are instead handled in civil lawsuits.
