TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma again ranks as one of the fattest states in the nation after the state's obesity rate rose for a third straight year.

Oklahoma's adult obesity rate is 28.1 percent and ties Arkansas as the eighth most obese state in the nation in a report from the nonprofit Trust for America's Health.

Oklahoma's obesity rate was 26.8 percent last year to rank ninth among the 50 states.

Adeline Yerkes in the state Health Department's Chronic Disease Services says the report is no surprise.

Yerkes says policies and legislation intended to reduce obesity have been passed in recent years but it's too soon to see results.

The study also placed Oklahoma with the sixth-highest rate of type 2 diabetes, the eighth-highest rate of hypertension and the fifth-worst rate in physical inactivity.
