McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - An Antlers woman is charged with attempted maiming in which prosecutors say she tried to pull out the eye of a motel maid in McAlester.

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Tommie Sue Cofflet attacked the Super 8 Motel maid Feb. 21 after the group she was with stayed past checkout time and was asked to leave.

Court documents say Cofflet held the maid in a headlock and began digging at her eye and caused severe trauma to the left eyeball.

Assistant Pittsburg County District Attorney Mike Miller says it isn't known yet if the maid will lose sight in the eye. He says if her vision is lost the charge may be upgraded to maiming.

Cofflet is in the Pittsburg County jail on $40,000 bond.

Kimberly Adams, her attorney, says she was just assigned to the case and can't comment.
