NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of North Carolina man who drowned in Lake Thunderbird.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Danny Proctor says authorities received calls about the drowning about 8:45 p.m. Sunday. The man, who hasn't been identified, occurred near the Calypso Cove section of the lake.
Proctor says friends of the man tried to save him but failed. Crews recovered the man's body about 8:25 a.m. Monday, about 60 yards from the shore in about 8½ feet of water.
The man is one of five people to drown in an Oklahoma lake during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Two of those drownings occurred in Lake Thunderbird.
