UNDATED (AP) - The fast-growing group of millionaire private college and university presidents hit a new record in recent years.
An analysis by the Chronicle of Higher Education found a record 23 presidents were paid more than $1 million in total compensation in fiscal 2008 - including University of Tulsa President Steadman Upham.
Upham's package is listed at just under $1.5 million.
Topping the list is Shirley Ann Jackson at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., whose total compensation the Chronicle pegged at nearly $1.6 million. She's followed by David Sargent at Suffolk University in Boston, who made $1.5 million.
The median compensation for the group rose 6.5 percent to $359,000. The median at major private research universities was up 15.5 percent to $628,000.
The figures essentially cover the 2007-2008 academic year.
