Cooking with Chris: Easy Chocolate Cake

We are making a delicious cake for a birthday party! This recipe is simple and won't take you a lot of time especially if you are expecting a big crowd. Christopher Tunnell the executive chef at the Choctaw Casino stops by with a few great ideas a surprise for Tom's birthday.

Easy Chocolate cake


2.5c All Purpose Flour
1.25 c Dutch process cocoa powder
2.5 c Sugar
2.5t Baking Soda
1.25 Baking Powder
1.25t salt

2 Whole eggs
1 Yolk
1.25c Buttermilk
.5 + 2T Vegetable oil
1.25t Vanilla
1.25c Warm Water


In a mixing bowl sift together all of the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt)

In a second bowl combine all the wet ingredients (whole eggs, yolk, buttermilk, veg oil, vanilla and water)

Gradually wisk the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk for a minute or two until completely combined and smooth.

Spray two 8 inch cake rounds with non-stick cooking spray
Divide the batter evenly between the two pans

Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes
Check for doneness with a skewer
