Chef Angie is joining us the morning to show us a recipe for the best apple pie ever!
409 W Main St, Denison, TX
9" pie plate
Crust for top and bottom (unbaked)
6 cups fresh apples (Gala or Washington are good) Peeled, cored and sliced
1 Cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter
one egg plus 1 tablespoon water
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place crust in pie plate. Put apple slices in large mixing bowl. Add sugar, flour, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Mix together well trying not to break the apples up. Place apple in crust. Cut butter into pieces and place on top of apples. Roll out top crust to fit. Place top crust over apples and press down firmly. Seal the side edges together and crimp edges. Cut slits with sharp knife in top crust to allow steam to escape. Beat egg with fork in small bowl. Brush top crust with egg mixture. Sprinkle sugar over top. Place pie on a baking sheet and put in preheated oven. Bake 35-45 minutes or until crust is golden and apples are tender. Cool on rack for 30 minutes before slicing.
