- 1 pkg active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup scalded milk
- 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 slightly beaten eggs
1/2 cup strawberry jam
1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Lightly spray a large baking sheet. Combine the yeast with water. In a large bowl, combine the milk, butter, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in the flour and yeast mixture. Add the eggs. Knead dough on lightly floured surface until smooth, about 8-10 minutes. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about one hour).
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 14-inch circle. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Place a glass in the center. Cut the dough in to 4 equal sections. Cut each section into 5 separate pieces. Remove the glass. Gather 2 strips together and twist together. Continue around the circle. Coil one of the twisted ends and roll up to the center of the ring. Gather remaining twists and gather loosely around the center to form additional flowered buns. Let dough rise until doubled.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 25 minutes.
Optional: Spread strawberry jam on top of each flower bud and glaze.
