Storms can cause quite the commotion, and when the winds start blowing, power lines and trees can start breaking. Ryan Loyd has today's Safe Family report.

When Wednesday night's wild weather rolled through Texoma, vehicles and homes were damaged, plus toppled trees and power lines made for a tense couple of hours.

When power lines go down, it can create dangerous situations, and police say it's important to know what to do if you encounter them.

"If a pole is knocked down, avoid it. If you're tangled, don't get out of your car." Sherman police Sgt. Bruce Dawsey says.

Other situations can create dangerous situations. Power outages can cause traffic lights to go down. If you're caught in the storm, protect yourself with knowledge.

"Don’t be in open fields. Seek shelter," Dawsey says.

It's severe weather season, and officials say to play it smart when the weather turns violent.
