After a tragic accident Sunday on Lake Texoma, officials are urging people to use extreme caution while on the lake. Lake patrol officials said the men were jumping waves in the jet skis. All three were thrown into the water when they collided. Officials say accidents like this can happen in an instant.
The lake can be a lot of fun for families, and as the weather starts to warm up, the crowds will start to fill up the restaurants, the beaches, and the water.
But Texas Game Warden Dale Moses says this is a time to remember all the rules of safety.
"All they think about is having fun. They have to have a respect for the water. It could kill you," Moses says.
The law requires all boaters and those on personal watercraft to wear life vests at all times.
"You don't intend to fall off, but it can happen," says Moses.
Officials say that an accident can happen in a flash. Keep in mind the laws on alcohol while operating a boat as well as right of way, and if you aren’t familiar with them, enroll in a boating safety course. It's free, and it could save your life.
"Everything happens so quickly. It just takes a minute to turn tragic."
