It's no secret that moms have a lot on their plate, balancing careers and families and trying to maintain their own sanity, all while trying to keep their families healthy and safe. Ryan Loyd has more in this Safe Family report.

Moms have so much to take care of. That's why Redbook Magazine's Stacy Morrison is recognizing all of what mom does, especially when it comes to keeping their families fit and healthy.

"We really are the gate keepers for health, nutrition, and overall well-being," Morrison says.

With childhood obesity rates on the rise, moms are responsible for being the chief health officer of the family. It's an important role because mothers must encourage their spouses and children to make smart food and beverage choice.

"I think it's a natural instinct. It's what the woman does," mom Gina Langford explains.

But in the midst of everything else going on, moms have to take care of themselves as well, there's no doubt that moms have an important role in the family.

Recognizing the tough job of moms will keep the family happy and healthy for years to come.

"moms are responsible for being the chief health officer of the family"- yup, one more thing to be blamed for when our kids decide NOT to eat healthy, no matter how hard we try to teach them how to eat healthy. That's what sucks about being a mom, you try SO HARD to teach your kids to make responsible choices, and when they choose otherwise everybody blames the mom for not doing her job properly.
