In today's Safe Family report, it's hot and humid, the perfect weather for snakes, so be careful out there, and make sure you know what to do when seconds count.

Recently a young girl was bitten by a copperhead in the Whitesboro area, which is not uncommon for this time of year.

In the Arbuckles, rattlesnakes slither and roam the area, so what should you do if the reptile should strike?

Experts say it is important to stay calm to keep your heart rate down and to keep the bite area below the heart in order to slow down the spread of the venom.

Do not put ice or a tourniquet on the bite area, but get to a hospital as soon as possible

Remember, the snake is just as scared you but isn't afraid to strike when it feels threatened.
