Boating safety stressed as Memorial Day Weekend nears
ARDMORE, OK – This week marks National Safe Boating Week. And with Memorial Day weekend just around the corner, many people are already planning for some fun in the sun. But before you finalize your lake plans, the U.S. Coast Guard has a sobering statistic - 90 percent of drowning victims in recreational boating accidents were not wearing life jackets. So the National Safe Boating Council wants to remind you to practice safety on the water. Reporter: Shelby LevinsEmail Address: shelby.levins@kxii.com |

I live by the lake and I have to admit, I used to hate the holidays because of all the visitors who drove like maniacs all over the place. However, we don't have "clear lake waters" here and boaters that are going to be at Lake Texoma are nuts because of all the excess debris. I drive across the Roosevelt bridge every day to and from work and there is not branches or twigs of debris, THERE ARE TREES! I don't see how anyone could have any fun out there literally dodging trees the whole time. Someone is definiately going to get hurt this weekend and not from being just being careless or drunk.
