Funeral services held for educator killed in U.S. 75 crash
Remembering Penny Raines DENISON, TX -- Funeral services for Texoma Christian School elementary principal Penny Raines were held Friday afternoon in Denison. ?, It seems as though you need god in your life.How can you possibly question Penny for not moving out of the way.She is not to blame for a car heading in her direction.The families are trying to cope and deal with there loss, just allow them to search for answers.Just allow them to grief in there on way. Slow your roll. Accidents happen, not just in Texas but everywhere. The issue of criminal negligent homicide is that something could have been done to prevent it from happening. That by definition keeps this from being an accident. That is what the police are saying with these charges. This could be avoided, Mr. Sanders actions or lack of acting caused this to happen. He did not mean to and I am sure he is sorry but being sorry does not make it go away. It is easy to sit back an talk about Jesus and forgiveness. There is one fact that is missing. Jesus paid a price. We can ask forgiveness but the reason we can is because a price was paid. With Jesus saying sorry does wipe it away. It does not in a court of law. Can't these people be mad and greive? How would you feel if someone calls you and says, "hey, I saw your mom's article on the news website but you should read what some guy wrote." If you are going to attack me for defending my family and asking questions about a death that I feel should not have happened please have the guts to use your name! As for the source of my information, I am in constant contact with the officer in charge of this case and he assures me that nothing has been leaked to the media. We do have the initial accident report and I can promise you that there is more to this story than the public knows. If Mr. Sanders does not want to explain his actions himself then there will have to be a criminal trial so that we may learn the truth. I am not saying that this was intentional and I'm not even seeking revenge. If I were I would have used my rights and filed a civil suit already. I just want to be able to tell my 3 and 5 year old why they will never see their Grandma again and why Nick will be recovering emotionally and physically for a very long time. [ Report Abuse ]

April I am sorry that someone told you that Mr. Sanders is not answering any questions for the police. The police only asked him to make a statement once and that was right after the accident when he was on pain medication. He did not feel secure speaking under medication and he had just found out that your mother-in-law was killed. He was in a very distraught state of mind. He is not refusing to speak with the police and he has not even hired a lawyer to tell him to be silent. I am sorry for your loss and I only want you to know the truth about the situation. When Jesus forgives us he also forgets our sins. He doesn't keep throwing them in our face. I understand this hurt is still fresh but holding a grudge forever is not forgiving. Knowing your loved one has gone to be with the Lord is comforting. I go thru things that I just don't understand at the time, but there is always a reason for it you will learn later. How dare you people judge this woman's family at a time like this. They are in shock, grief,and are feeling a profound loss upon which those of you who have never lost a family member suddenly cannot begin to imagine. Plus, a child id still recovering. There is a whole range of emotions that come with grieving. One of which is rage. Rage that his mother was taken so suddenly and without warning. Sorrow that no goodbyes were given. On and on... Someone had posted that Jeremy Sanders lost his wife in a car accident. If that's the case, then he must understand that someone must be held accountable. An accident merely means that it was unintentional, it doesn't mean that there is no accountablity. If Mr. Sanders has been through this, he understands more that anyone that there must be consequences, even though it was unintentional, it must be determined if it could have been prevented. You are amazing William and being able to forgive will help you overcome. No one doubts that this was an accident, but that only means that it was unintentional. Of course Mr. Sanders never meant to hurt anyone. It doesn't mean it couldn't have been prevented. Everytime we get behind the wheel of a car, we accept that we are in charge of a deadly weapon and must be extremely cautious. If we are anything less, we are held accountable for our actions. I will miss Penny. She was my cynical touchstone at our family functions and I always enjoyed her dry sense of humor. We will always keep her memory alive so Braden and Lydia will never forget. I am glad to know that the child is doing better. I will keep praying for him. It is so sad to hear someone that was raised by this wonderful woman talk with such harsh words. I did not know her personally, but everyone states how wonderful and kind hearted she was, and to see you talk in such way, makes me want to pray for all the pain you feel. Just don't forget that hatered only brings out the worse in life and that includes yours. Again my heart and my prayers go out to you and to your family and to Jeremy and his family as well. I think that it is very sad that everyone on this page has taken the time to comment on this story and all they can do is respond to one person's statement! Why not use the opportunity to express grief and sadness or words of encouragement to many people who are suffering because of this incident. Please notice that I use the word incident and not accident. Although, I too believe that Mr. Sanders did not set out to kill my Mother-in-Law on Monday morning whatever his intentions were that morning, that is exactly what he did. I'm surprised that none of you have commented on my husband's entry where he is able to say that he doesn't wish ill feelings for Mr. Sanders. How about recognizing the kind of man Mrs. Raines must have reared to be able to say what he has said. And as far as knowing the cause of this incident Mr. Sanders has refused to talk to the police and I can assure you that they have not ruled out any causes except alcohol, leaving room for many other explanations. Let me lead off by telling Billy Raines I am sorry for your loss. I did not know Penny well, but I did know she devoted her life to kids, both her own and the kids of TCS. She often shared stories of her kids and grandkids. I completely understand the sadness and the desire to hold someone responsible for her death and the injury of Nick, however, let me share something about Mr. Sanders, the man that crossed the median that horrible morning, He has devoted the last 5 years to becoming a health care professional. He is genuinely a good man. There is speculation that he may have fallen asleep at the wheel, only time will tell what really happened, but for all of those that are calling for revenge, the next time you go to your local hospital in the middle of the night and you are taken care of by a smiling health care professional, like Mr. Sanders know that men and women devote their lives to caring for others despite the hour and fatigue because they care about the welfare of all [ Report Abuse ]

I agree hang'em High was my first response, but his family losing him will not bring my mom back to me or my family. She was loved and did love all. For me to attempt to follow in her footsteps and be the son she always said I was, I have to "forgive" the action that caused this event, but do not mistake I DO NOT FORGET. I expect him to be punished and for him to wear a large scarlet letter "P" on his chest for the rest of his life so that he never forgets what he did to everyone in this community. Eventhough I do not know the deceased I am sure since she was a Christian woman she would tell you to forgive .Isn't that what God commanded us to do ? I'm sure the young man didn't intend to kill anyone that Mon morning.He wasn't under the influence of drugs or alchohol.It a shame that there isn't such thing as an accident any more without the conseqences of going to jail.My prayers are with the family of Mrs Raines and also the young man that hit her.May God be with you all. Prayers and thoughts for the family. This town is so small that when the media gets a story it usualy doesn't rest. There is no privacy. As for the accident, the family will have justice, but at the same time another family has a loss to. Ms. Penny was just like everyone else in a daily routine going on with life, nobody deserves this or expects such tragedy. God bless the little boy.He survived for a reason! Enjoy him and love him even more. IT is my opinion the comments on this story needs to come off. Give the family time to grieve.

My guess is that Mr. X is a staffer at KXII whose job is to start long, stupid, completely inappropriate discussions like this one. If you all will check out some of the other articles you will see Mr. X will have started most of them. NOW... ALL of you people who dared to attack my wife for trying to protect her hurting husband will all have to report to the "higher power" and explain yourselves. Really, people, enough is enough. It was a terrible wreck. One died, one was injured, and one has to learn to live with it. Nothing any of us say or do is going to change any of that. Let the law enforcement officers and jury system decide if there was any negligence, or if it was truely an accident beyond anyone's ability to prevent. God's hand is in everything that happens, and whatever the outcome is, well, that's what it is. Leave well enough alone. Let the professionals deal with it, and let's move on so that everyone and their families can begin to heal. Say a prayer for everyone involved and touched in anyway by this tragedy. I have been in a fatality accident myself, and let me tell you, it will take years of recovery for anyone to be able to even begin moving on. They need your prayers, not your opinions or comments. KXII, you would do the families a favor by removing this comment section from this article. God help those who's lives were affected by this accident.

I am absolutely appalled at the way some of ya'll are treating this poor family! I feel like apologizing to the family for the way some of the public have responded. Mrs. Raines' family has every right to want answers, to rage, to be a little angry, etc. It is a natural part of grieving. That has nothing to do with religion. How dare you people question this family's faith! First of all it's none of your business. Second of all, pleasing fickle public opinion is probably not high on the priority list of the family at this moment. Stop talking of wreck details,it's not helping. Leave that to the PD.
