DENISON, Tex. -- The Denison Independent School District has made a big purchase for the future. The district has bought 130 acres of land at the southeast corner of Highways 75 and 91. Administrators hope the plot will be the future site of Denison High School.
The site previously purchased for a high school is on the northwest corner of Highway 75 and Highway 84.
The board says the land has increased in value since they bought it, and so has the traffic in the area.
School officials say that site will be better suited for development than a high school.
Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott says even though the new property is not in the middle of town, he believes in another several years it will be.
"If we built a high school today, it would be on the fringe of the community, but 20 years down the road, the community is going to build to the northwest primarily," Scott said.
Officials say the new site will also allow for better traffic flow.
