ARDMORE, Okla. -- More than a dozen young men learned what it feels like to sit in those important chairs of city government as part of the Young Men's Leadership City Government Day at the Ardmore Commission Chambers on Wednesday.

Participants had a chance to learn firsthand what it takes to run a city, complete with questions from difficult reporters.

Plainview sophomore Trevor Wakefield had this exchange with our Robin Beal.

"Today we went to the waste refinery and we went to the fire station and we ate lunch, and we got to go up in the ladder so that was pretty cool. And I guess we're going to do a mock council meeting," (Trevor)

"And you're the mayor?" (Robin)

"Yes, I'm the mayor." (Trevor)

"Have you ever been the mayor before?" (Robin)

"No, I've not been the mayor." (Trevor)

"So how are you going to run the meeting?" (Robin)

"Very brutally…pretty strict." (Trevor)

The event is organized by the Ardmore YMCA. If you would like information on youth leadership programs, contact the YMCA or the YWCA.
