DENISON, Tex. -- Denison Independent School District officials say they may have to hold a rollback election. Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott says the district is not receiving all the funding it could from the state.

The Texas Legislature changed the way schools receive that money. As a result, most districts in Texas are operating in a deficit. Officials say the rollback election would make up for the deficit spending.

Dr. Scott says the school board is discussing when to call the election, but it could be as soon as October.

Bells, Whitewright, and Whitesboro ISD’s have already passed a rollback. Other area districts are considering it as well.

I think it means an election is held to "roll back" tax rates to a previous, presumably higher rate in this case. So if rates were lowered in anticipation of state funds that aren't coming then the rollback election, if it passes, would return those rates to the previous level. But I agree, KXII could have done a better job explaining this.

You should explain what a Rollback Election is and how will it fix the funding problem.

Thank you, Rick Perry, for your slight of hand in "fixing" of the states school funding system. When are the voters of this state going to wake up, and not buy into the unsupported claims made by any candidate who looks good in a suit. Perry has become a master at collecting huge tax revenues, but passing on expenses to the lower rungs of government. The state collects more, but local taxes increase, and we get toll roads in the bargain.
