GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- Children in the S & S School District and drivers on U.S. Highway 82 will be a little safer this school year thanks to a bus-only service road at the intersection of U.S. 82 and Wolff Drive that will allow buses to safely pick up and drop off children without affecting traffic flow on the highway.

The new road was prompted after an accident on April 30 killed six-year-old De’Shae Walker, of Sherman, and seriously injured her father, Duke Walker, when their SUV slammed into the back of a semi on the highway because a school bus was stopped.

The road will be finished in the next 7 days.

Talking on the cell phone and speed and her being in the front seat were the reasons thie terrible accident happened and the tragic result that occurred. There were no skid marks showing where he tried to stop. Yes he tried to swerve to miss, and thank God he didn't slam into the back of the school bus or more could have been killed. Let's also remember every vehicle bought today has warning tags all over and on ever visor that it is dangerous and can be lethal for anyone under the age of 12 to be in the front seat. It is horrible. I can not imagine what this poor man has to live with every day for the rest of his life.

Why does it take the death of an innocent child for the county to spend money?

Anonymous @ 7:58pm. You are right, he did slam into the back of a semi. But HE WAS PAYING ATTENTION!!! He tried to swerve but there were other vehicles. He is not well still today. The family still needs our prayers. Hang in there Duke! I think it's fantastic that there will now be "bus only" service roads! Hopefully, we can obtain a few more. But even one is better than none.

The SUV slammed into the back of a semi not a school bus. The bus stop did not kill her. Not paying attention by the driver of the SUV killed her. I'm so sad it happened but that is more then likely what happened. Any other ideas?

Still doesn't help all the buses crossing the middle intersections and sticking out into traffic at least one lane, which i've seen do some near hits throughout the years of driving on that road.. 82 needs to be redrafted through the smaller towns so the tragic accidents stop.

This will be great if you can keep cars that are not suppose to be on it off. Hope it works out. Good idea.
