OKLAHOMA CITY -- Nearly half of Oklahoma schools will be getting less money this year. State aid allocations were released Thursday by the State Board Of Education.

State Superintendent Sandy Garrett says 224 of the state's 535 districts will receive less funding for 2008-2009 compared to last year. She says although public school enrollment has increased, and the cost of gas, utilities, and food are going up, the legislature did not provide for extra funding.

For most school districts, state aid makes up the largest source of their funding. The largest decrease in our area is at mill creek in Johnston County. Other districts losing a large amount of funding include Coalgate in Coal County and Ardmore schools.

JFK SAID "LETS NOT ASK WHAT OUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU BUT WHAT WE CAN DO FOR OUR COUNTRY" OUR KIDS EDUCATION SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1.SO IF WE TAKE COUNTRY OUT AND REPLACE IT WITH "SCHOOLS" DURING THESE HARD TIMES. LETS START UP A VOLUNTERING NET WORK STATE WIDE, TO INCLUDE, MAINTENANCE, SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSISTANCE ETC. WHAT ABOUT A SPECIAL PIGGY BUS BANKS PLACED IN EVERY STORE,EATING ESTABLISHMENTS, ETC. WE CAN DO ALOT OF SMALL THINGS TOGETHER. SET UP A WEB SITE TO GET IDEAS AND THE BEST MONEY SAVINGS IDEAS WOULD GET, SAY, TICKETS TO THE NBA TEAM.

What happened to the lottery helping fund PUBLIC schools? It looks to me like all the money is going to colleges. Schools also have increased fuel costs aswell as food.
