KINGSTON, Okla. -- The start of a new school year in Oklahoma means enrolling your child, but the paperwork often does not stop there. Another important form for a lot of schools is the household income paperwork.

Kingston is just one of many who keep track of family income data.
Administrators say they are not trying to pry into your personal affairs, but income questionnaires are one of many tools they can use to get federal grant money to provide free or reduced lunches to kids who need them.

"It's so important that everybody fills out this whether or not you qualify -- even if you know you don't qualify. It's important that we have it on record. This way when we have a site review, we're able to pull up the information," said Kingston Superintendent Jay McAdams.

Students in Kingston resumed classes last week.

All I know is that every year the Ardmore JOM wants the parents of Indian kids to fill out a form so they can get that extra funding for the schools. Then the school goes and blows it on something that doesn't benefit my kids in anyway. The JOM program here in Ardmore is run by a group of parents that only include their kids and tend to leave out the rest of the Indian kids. The woman over the JOM knows nothing of Indian culture and tends to blow money on meetings at restaurants that no other parents can attend during the day. We never know what is going on in the JOM Program here in Ardmore. So I just quit filling out the form, and now they don't get anything extra from me. I heard she has kids from other tribes on the Chickasaw roll who are not even Chickasaw!

I would be willing to fill out the paperwork to get the same grant Kingston gets so all the students get free breakfast and lunch but Madill is to lazy to even try to accomplish this. So like other people I make to much to get even reduced lunches, but yet my child normally gets less food than the kids that pay nothing at all because it is already gone by the time they get there.

There is an old saying "there is no such thing as a free lunch"

I agree with you mom, we have enough to do without filling out all of these. I always do the ones I feel are necessary, but as for the income and such, Im in the middle as well, make too much to get help, and make to little to make a difference

I don't fill out any of them. I get so sick of being hounded to fill out personal information. Everybody wants to know your social security number and income. I just say is it mandatory, and they usually try to say it is, but then I push it and they go away. I just tell them I am too rich to qualify for any programs, and too poor to afford anything! If they want to know the average income they can ask the U.S. Census Bureau!
