SHERMAN, TX – Austin College celebrated the career achievements of former members of the Kangaroo family on Sunday at its annual Legends Gala, with University of Texas Associate Athletic Director Butch Worley among those being honored as this years recipient of the Coach Joe Spencer Award for Meritorious Service and Lifetime Achievement in Coaching.

Worley, a 1976 graduate of Austin College, played football and baseball for the Kangaroos before becoming an assistant football coach at Sherman High School upon graduation. After graduating from Texas Tech School of Law in 1983 and spending the next few years as a practicing attorney, he returned to athletics as a member of DeLoss Dodds’ athletics staff in 1987 and has remained a prominent member of the Longhorn family for the past two decades.

In conjunction with Worley being honored with this lifetime achievement award, Austin College also inducted alumni Jim Baird, Bo Brown, Allison McKinney-Tarpley, and Kenneth Tatum into the school’s Athletic Hall of Honor, with long time faculty member Dr. Kenneth Street being inducted as an honorary member of the Hall of Honor.

In addition to the Coach Joe Spencer and Hall of Honor honorees, the school announced Greenville Christian School football coach Larry Uland as the annual Kedric Couch Coach of the Year Award recipient. Uland was named the TAPPS Division I Six-man Football Coach of the Year in 2007.
