Special Teams Lift Southeastern to 29-21 Win Save Email Print

DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern football team (2-4, 1-0 LSC-N) got timely plays from every facet of its special teams en route to a 29-21 win in the Lone Star Conference North Division opener against Southwestern Oklahoma State (1-5, 0-1 LSC-N) on Saturday night at Paul Laird field.

Southeastern’s Jerome Hewitt put SOSU ahead for good on a 54 yard punt return with 7:44 to play in the game, while a Cole Jones field goal from 30 yards out with 52 seconds left sealed the Storm win.

SWOSU’s Steve Day led all passers, completing 26-of-43 for 326 yards and three touchdowns, although the Storm was able to pick him off three times.

On the ground, Southeastern’s Baylen Laury rushed for 109 yards on 18 carries, but he also led SOSU in receiving with five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Southeastern will be back in action on Oct. 11 when it travels to Edmond, Okla., to face Central Oklahoma at 6 p.m., while Southwestern Oklahoma State will be home in Weatherford, Okla., for a 3:30 pm contest against Northeastern State (Okla.) on the same day.
