The Austin College football team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling 38-24 to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Millsaps College on the road. The 'Roos are now 2-1 on the year and 0-1 in SCAC play.
Austin College got on the board first with a field goal by Phillip Richardson but the Majors scored 10 straight to make it a 10-3 after the first quarter. In the second quarter the 'Roos took a 16-10 lead with the second score coming on a Brogan Funderburg touchdown run, but the Majors scored again to take a one point lead into halftime.
After Austin College scored early in the third quarter to take a 24-17 lead, Millsaps would take control by scoring 21 unanswered points the rest of the way to hand the 'Roos a 38-24 loss.
Travis Zambiasi completed 8-of-17 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 63 yards and Greg Harrell hauled in eight passes for 137 yards and a score to lead the 'Roos offensively, while Ethan Tanner recorded a team-best seven tackles to lead the defense.
Austin College is back home next week when they host Centre College at Jerry Apple Stadium with kickoff time set for 1:00 p.m.
