The Austin College men’s soccer team scored midway through the first half and used a strong defensive effort to hold off the visiting Millsaps College Majors for a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon. The ’Roos improve to 4-2-2 overall and 1-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the victory.
The lone goal of the day came in the 31st minute when Memo Allande one-timed a cross from Jason Campbell past Millsaps keeper Dylan Broussard, sending the ’Roos into the break leading by a one goal margin. Each team had chances in the second half with several shots deflecting off of the crossbar and posts, but neither team was able to add any more scoring the rest of the way.
Grant Gosselin made five saves to earn his second shutout of the season while Broussard stopped for shots for the Majors. For the game, Austin College out-shot Millsaps 17-13, including an 11-7 advantage in the second half.
Austin College will next travel to Sewanee, Tennesee to take on Sewanee: University of the South on Friday.
