SOSU women top Cameron

1-30-08 - The Southeastern Oklahoma State women's basketball team (11-8, 2-2 LSC-N) got a season-high 23 points from Kacey Russell en route to an 82-71 win against Cameron (3-16, 0-4 LSC-N) on Wednesday night in Lawton, Okla.

Russell's 23 led all scorers, while Channing Gann and Jessica Hocker also reached double figures with 16 and 12 points, respectively.

Destiny Brown led the way on the boards for the Savage Storm with eight boards, while Ashley Tucker was right behind with seven rebounds. Tucker also triggered the offense to the tune of seven assist to go with her nine points.

The Storm shot 48.1 percent for the game, including a 45.0 mark from behind the arc, hitting 9-of-20 three point shots.

SOSU jumped to an early 4-0 lead after buckets by Brown and Hocker, and led 7-2 2:14 into the contest.
The teams traded blows before the Storm final ly pushed out to a double-digit lead on a Gann layup with 4:01 to play making the score 29-18.

SOSU took a second 11-point lead on a Russell jumper with 2:50 remaining, but CU outscored the Storm 6-3 for the remainder of the half to trim Southeastern's lead to 34-26 at halftime.

The scoring picked up in the second half, with the Aggies cutting the SOSU lead to 36-33 with 17:41 to play.
A Gann three stopped the bleeding, but CU stayed close and trimmed the Storm advantage to 41-39 with 14:20 remaining.

Southeastern used an 8-2 run to go up 49-41, but the Aggies again closed the gap to 55-53 at the 7:04 mark.

A 10-2 run put SOSU back up by double figures at 65-55, and by the 1:38 mark, the Storm had built a 76-61 lead and cruised to the final of 82-71.

Southeastern will next be in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when it returns to Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium for a matchup with Central Oklahoma.
