2-6-08 - The Southeastern Oklahoma State women's basketball team (12-9, 3-3 LSC-N) got five three pointers on the night from Kacey Russell but were still bitten by the upset bug as East Central (12-9, 2-4 LSC-N) handed SOSU a 64-60 loss on Wednesday night in Ada ,Okla.
Russell finished with a team-high 17 points for the Savage Storm while Jasmine Hughey chipped in 14. The two combined to post 31 points off the bench.
Destiny Brown turned in a game-high 15 rebound effort, while Ashley Tucker dished out seven assists.
As a team the Storm owned the boards with a 52-to-37 advantage, including a 17-to-9 margin on the offensive glass.
SOSU opened well, building a five-point lead early before the Tigers answered and erased the lead and by the 7:18 mark had the Storm down 19-10.
A Jessica Hocker bucket kicked off a Storm rally and by the 1:48 mark Russell capped t hat run by giving SOSU a 27-23 lead. ECU got the final bucket of the half to fashion the halftime count of 27-25.
The Tigers opened the second half with the momentum, twice six-point advantage before a 7-0 run capped by a Hughey jumper put the Storm on top 40-39 with 11:53 remaining.
The teams traded buckets until SOSU put together six quick points to take a 51-45 lead at the 6:58 mark.
A 7-2 Tiger run knotted the score at 52-52 and the teams followed by trading baskets until ECU built up a six point lead with 1:01 remaining and held off the Storm late to fashion the final of 64-60.
Southeastern will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Northeastern State at 6 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
