2-7-08 - The Southeastern Oklahoma State softball team (4-1) will take to the road again as they head west to play in the CBS Insurance Classic hosted by Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas.
The Savage Storm opened the season at the St. Mary's Classic this past weekend where they posted a 4-1 record and upset the host and No. 9-ranked Rattlers of St. Mary's.
Following the tournament, SOSU pitcher Marjorie Johnson was named tourney MVP, while Rachel Lynn and Bailey Mathes added all-tournament honors as well.
Looking to follow that up with an equally impressive showing, the Storm will have their hands full facing three Lone Star Conference schools and another ranked region opponent.
SOSU opens the weekend with an out-of-region contest with No. 11 Emporia State (0-0) at 2 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will be the season opener for the Hornets who are c oming off a 50-12 season and a berth in the NCAA North Central Region tournament.
In an 8 p.m. contest on Friday, the Savage Storm will face the host Wildcats. ACU opened its season at the St. Mary's tournament as well, posting a 4-1 record.
SOSU will open play on Saturday with a 2 p.m. rematch against No. 9 St. Mary's (4-1). In the first contest at SMU, the Storm picked up a 9-3 win in an 11 hit effort.
They close the tournament on Saturday with a double-header first facing Northeastern State (4-1) at 5 p.m. and Cameron (4-3) at 7 p.m.
