Midwestern State unleashed 19 converted 3-pointers as the Mustangs gunned down the East Central University Tigers 106-69 Monday night in Lone Star Conference men’s crossover basketball action.
Nolan Richardson IV, who led all scorers with 32 points, hit 11-of-22 shots from the field and was 10-of-18 from downtown as the Mustangs shot 49.4 percent overall and 51.4 percent (19-of-37) from 3-point territory.
The ECU loss overshadowed a magnificent effort from sophomore Dontae Figgs, who finished with 29 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
Senior guard Tyler Thetford was the only other Tiger to reach double figures with 10. Freshman Cory Nicholson followed with nine points and 10 rebounds while junior Justin Wilkerson added eight points and four boards.
ECU shot only 36.8 percent for the game and managed only three treys (3-of-13).
Three others reached the double-digit plateau in scoring for MSU (9-4) as Craig Green added 22 points, including four 3-pointers, followed by Trajinski Grigsby with 15 points and Charlie Logan with a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds.
The Mustangs held a 53-40 rebounding advantage and ECU committed four more turnovers than the hosts, 15-11.
MSU held a 49-31 halftime advantage and outscored the Tigers by 19 in the second half.
ECU (4-8) visits Dallas Baptist Wednesday for a 7 p.m. start before hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville for more LSC crossover play at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
