East Central University was held to 28.1 percent shooting while the University of Central Oklahoma hit at a 51.6 percent pace as the 17th-ranked Bronchos routed the Lady Tigers 86-49 Wednesday night in Lone Star Conference North women’s basketball action at the Kerr Center.
All five of UCO’s starters reached double figures, led by Ashley Beckley’s 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting as the Bronchos improved to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the LSC North.
ECU, which fell to 7-10 and 1-2, received a team-leading 16 points and eight rebounds from senior Kacey Thomas. Sophomore guard Casi Rawls was the only other Lady Tiger in double figures with 10. Senior guard Veronica Valles, on the strength of two 3-pointers, added eight points.
However, the Lady Tigers managed just 18 field goals on the night while being out-rebounded by a 43-36 margin and committing two more turnovers than the visitors, 14-2.
Joining Beckley in double figures for UCO were Rose Anderson with 12 points, Mallory Markus with 11 and Lizzie Brenner and Cristina Yarbrough with 10 apiece. Yarbrough also pulled down 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
The Bronchos, who were 13-of-30 from 3-point range (43.3 percent), also compiled 23 assists on the night, led by five from Yarbrough and four each from Brenner and Rose.
ECU never held a lead in the game as UCO broke a 5-all deadlock by going on a 15-2 run in a six-minute span to take control of the game. The Bronchos cruised to a 41-25 halftime advantage and outscored the hosts 45-24 in the second half.
Also for the Lady Tigers, Kelcie Nunley chipped in six points and collected four assists while Danielle Cox added five points and six boards.
The Lady Tigers are back in LSC North action Saturday as they visit Northeastern State for a 2 p.m. matchup in Tahlequah.
